An Overview of Steinway Spirio

The Steinway Spirio is an advanced player piano system that allows the piano to perform music with remarkable expressiveness, exactly as a human pianist would. Using state-of-the-art digital technology, the Spirio system enables the piano to play pre-recorded music with an unparalleled level of nuance and detail, replicating every subtle dynamic, tempo variation, and phrasing nuance of the original performance. Unlike traditional player pianos, which typically just play a series of notes from a pre-programmed roll or file, the Spirio is designed to capture the full range of a live performance. It’s more than just a playback system—it’s a true "performance piano" that can showcase an extraordinary level of expressiveness, replicating the smallest touches and gestures of a pianist. The Steinway Spirio is available in both Spirio | r and Spirio | i models: • Spirio | r: The acoustic version that includes the Spirio system built into the piano, allowing it to both play and be pla...

Piano Tuning; What Goes Into a 1 Hour Service Call?

Pianos develop creaky joints, begin to respond une...

Hidden Treasures | James Grebe Piano Tuner

Many pianos in the area were, at one point, used as official instruments in the St. Louis Municipal Opera. This one was also dedicated in memory of Betty Clinton.  One of the most shocking, and unbelievable, critters I have found in a piano. We hear about mice all the time, but how about birds? This was a first (and probably a last). The owner and I deduced it to be a chimney swift that had somehow made it into the backside of the piano, and was never able to get out. Three of my favorite things in regards to piano work : the music, learning how things work, and restoring old and neglected things to their former glory.” — Christine Piano Technician and Chamber Vocalist Christine grew up in Ellisville where she began playing piano at the age of seven years old. She developed her musicianship studying piano from several well-respected piano instructors in the Saint Louis area.  Christine studied at the University of Missouri Kansas City where she earned a Bachelors...
